The Eduvos BioVerse Competition invites third-year and honours-level students from private and public higher education institutions to showcase bold scientific innovations, ingenuity, and passion to address real-world challenges unique to our continent, our people, and our resources.

The Faculty of Applied Science at Eduvos will host the Eduvos BioVerse Competition on 30 October 2025 at our Pretoria Campus.

Competition Details

How to Enter.

The Eduvos BioVerse Competition is open to all third-year and honours-level science students from private and public higher education institutions in South Africa.

To enter, submit a proposal that outlines your groundbreaking bio-innovation or bio-entrepreneurship project. Proposals will be evaluated on merit, feasibility, impact, and innovation.

Your proposal should cover:

  • The problem you’re solving.
  • Your innovation or solution.
  • Its potential impact.
  • The business case and feasibility.
  • Your plan to make it happen.

BioVerse Entry

Competition Prizes

The Eduvos BioVerse Competition prizes for the winners include:

  • An internship opportunity with Aquatico Scientific that will launch your career in a field of your choice.
  • A mentorship opportunity with Twenty20Science.
  • Funding to attend a high-impact science conference of your choice (R5000 voucher sponsored by Inqaba Biotech).
  • A R1000 iStore Education Voucher.
All Finalists in the competition will receive:

Terms and Conditions

General Terms
  1. Eligibility Criteria:
    • Entries must comply with all relevant South African regulations.
    • Each applicant must provide accurate and complete information in the application form.
    • Only one entry is permitted per individual, team, or organization.
  2. Finals and Travel:
    • The South African competition finals will take place in Pretoria, Gauteng.
    • Finalists are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs to attend the finals.
  3. Judging and Selection:
    • Entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts.
    • Five finalists will be selected to compete at the finals in Pretoria, Gauteng.
  4. Prize:
    • Winners will be selected and prizes handed out at the finals.

Student Entrants
  1. Eligibility:
    • Applicants must be registered students at an accredited South African Higher Education institution in 2025.
    • Entrants must be 35 years or younger.
    • Eligible students include those in their 3rd year of undergraduate studies or pursuing an Honours degree in 2025.
  2. Innovation Criteria:
    • The product/intervention must have ethical clearance if preliminary data or supporting analytics is presented.
  3. Winning Criteria:
    • Market and scientific credibility.
    • Competitive edge and feasibility of implementation.

  1. The organizers reserve the right to amend or cancel the competition due to unforeseen circumstances.
  2. Participants agree to adhere to the rules and decisions of the judging panel, which are final and binding.
  3. All personal information collected will be processed in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
