Eduvos will be taking the stage for the third time at Comic Con Cape Town 2025. In partnership with RGB Gaming, join us at Comic Con Cape Town where 50 of our Vossie gamers from the Mowbray and Tygervalley campuses will compete in a Rocket League tournament on Saturday, 3 May. Whether you’re here for the tournament hype or just exploring, it’s the perfect chance to chat with the Eduvos team about our qualifications, study modes, and everything in between.
Taking place from 1 to 4 May 2025 at CTICC 2, Comic Con Cape Town is the ultimate celebration of creativity, individuality, and pop culture. From high-energy matchups to behind-the-scenes insights into future-ready careers, this event is where entertainment meets education, and we’re here for all of it. We are excited to not only be hosting a tournament in partnership with RGB Gaming, but we will also be speaking at the event. Dr. Miné de Klerk, Dean of Curricula and Research, and Dr. Riaan Steenberg, Executive Director of Eduvos, will present on the Pop-Taku stage.
On Friday, 2 May, Eduvos will take the spotlight in a thought leadership segment at Comic Con Cape Town. From 1:30 pm until 2 pm, Dr Miné de Klerk will speak on Reshaping the Future of Higher Education with AI, unpacking how artificial intelligence technologies are transforming traditional learning environments, empowering both educators and students to embrace new possibilities in acquiring knowledge and skill development. From 2:30 pm until 3 pm, Dr Riaan Steenberg will follow with an inspiring talk on The Impact of Esports & Education: Bridging the Critical Skills Gap in South Africa, highlighting how competitive gaming develops vital workplace competencies including strategic thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy, skills that are increasingly sought after by employers across sectors.
“At RGB Gaming, we believe esports has a powerful role to play in education. Competitive gaming fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy – skills that are essential in today’s world. Esports provides a platform for students who might not participate in traditional sports to thrive, while also opening doors to STEM learning and career pathways in the gaming industry,” says Jaco Sauer, the General Manager for RGB Gaming.
As one of South Africa’s largest private higher education esports leagues, this is more than just a competition – it’s an opportunity for our students to showcase their skills, build industry connections, and open doors to future careers in gaming and esports.
We believe in the power of gaming in education. Our Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Game Design and Development) is designed to bridge the skills gap in the African gaming industry, creating an ecosystem that bridges education and industry, providing students with real-world competitive gaming experience.
“Esports opens doors for our students, not just to compete, but to create. With more than 2,000 developers emerging from Eduvos annually, we’re equipping the next generation with the skills to transform Africa’s digital landscape. Esports, along with AI, robotics, and extended reality, form a core part of the future-facing education we offer, where learning is immersive, relevant, and career-focused.”
– Dr Riaan Steenberg, Executive Director at Eduvos.
Beyond entertainment, gaming fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that are essential in today’s fast-paced world. By integrating gaming and esports into education, we’re providing students with pathways to explore areas like game design, data analytics, marketing, and event management.
