Our Eduvos esports community is quickly becoming one of the most exciting parts of student life on campus and online. With national representation, cross-campus collaboration, and friendly matches against other higher education institutions, Eduvos Esports is changing the game.
Recently, the Eduvos Esports team went head-to-head against Stellenbosch University’s Maties Esports team in a friendly game of Rocket League. The energy was high, the competition fierce, and for many students, it was an unforgettable experience.
“It felt honourable representing my institution,” said Reatlegile Thekiso, a Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Software Development) student from the Pretoria campus. “The energy from the team was good overall. My highlight would be the 1v1 matches – I won all of them regardless of which player Stellenbosch put up against me.”
Eduvos is using Esports as a platform to foster a vibrant, inclusive student community. At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to connection – bringing students together through their shared passion for gaming while developing essential life skills such as teamwork, strategic thinking, and communication. The goal is to create a space where students feel supported, empowered, and part of something bigger.
“Being part of the Eduvos Esports team means a whole lot to me,” said Bophelo Nkala, a Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Software Development) student from the Bloemfontein campus. “This has been a dream of mine since I was introduced to the world of Esports. I could not believe that it finally came true.”
Students aren’t just having fun – they’re also learning valuable life and career skills. Competitive gaming at Eduvos teaches teamwork, time management, discipline, and critical thinking – all while building confidence and community.
Adam Emille Allie-Reid, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Data Science) student from the Tygervalley campus says, “Esports is like an extra subject for me. I treat it the same way I treat maths – practice until I improve. I also make sure I’m mentally well so I can fully commit to both academics and Esports.”
Eduvos’ support for gamers at all skill levels is what makes the Esports environment so inclusive. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or just starting out, there’s a place for you here.
“Everyone is welcome – no matter if you are a beginner or a pro,” said Kiara Jessica Addinall, a Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Software Development) student from the Tygervalley campus. “It’s a great place to meet new people and grow as a player.”
With growing student interest, regular inter-campus tournaments, and ongoing competitions against higher education institutes like Stellenbosch, the future of Eduvos Esports looks bright.
So, whether you're in it to win it or just in it for the thrill of the game, Eduvos Esports invites you to plug in, play, and be part of something bigger.
